Why are the Democrats being so blind to the immigration problem?
I just watched a video of a minutemen protest at Colombia University. Has anyone else seen it??? Look on u-tube. It's pathetic to see the way the students are acting...

You need to re watch that video as you must of missed something or had no sound. The independants is who stormed the stage and caused all that....not the democrats or republicans. The independants are the ones who are saying, let the illegals stay, the other main parties are both for not letting them stay.

Because they see the immigrants as people they can ensnare in their web of social programs so that they can increase their voting base. The Republicans want free labor, they have only recently discovered that illegal immigration is bad. They were forced into this by talk radio and the looming election.

Those were students, not particularly Democrats. But if you would like to focus on the root of the problem, neither party is paying much attention to the problem because the money that wealthy people save by hiring illegal aliens makes them wealthier. Wealthy people support both parties. Therefore neither party will make a REAL effort to stop it completely.

This is my personal opinon. Let me start off by saying that I am not a racist. I believe that you should not be in the U.S. as an immigrant unless you came here legally. This means with a visa. If you are not here with the proper documents, then leave. The claim that the illegal aliens are not criminals is laughable, what part of the word illegal do they not get? I also have an objection to the fact that a pregnant Mexican woman can come here and have her baby. This makes the kid an automatic citizen. I believe that again unless you are a citizen, a legal resident alien, or a legal visitor that having a baby should not automatically entitle you to stay. In order to do that however, we would need to ammend the Constitution, i.e the 14th Ammendment.

My respect for Colombia has gone down to zero.If an invited speaker cant talk about the subject he was invited to speak about without being attacked by racists. Its time to rethink a lot of policy's for that school and its faculty. The Hispanic Studies group that charged from their seats ,yelling curse words,obscenities,and even called one of the Minute Men ,who is black,a Ni****. They had absolutely no respect for the speakers who were older than most of them,or for the University.They did one thing that was positive,they convinced a whole lot of people that the illegal immigrant creates problems for America.Each time theses Marxists radical groups like La Raza engineer a set up like this ,they make more enemy's of legal voting Americans.Theses fools,don't seem to know they are hurting their own cause with this kind of lawlessness,along with the desecration of an American flag,makes voters angry....

yeah i used to consider myself a democrat and im so confused about what the senate dems are thinking. its just a pathetic way to try and get votes. personally, i'de rather have my party lose elections than have them win them by making stinky illegals citizens to vote. its trully pathetic. i consider myself independent now.

What aspects must I take into account to plan an esl summer camp for kids?
I am an English teacher. I work for an important school in Bogotá (Colombia). My boss wants me to start planning a kind of Summer camp for my students. I have some ideas, but I would like to get some comments from people who have already had this kind of experience.

Make sure there are a lot of different people who speak all the languages being represented at the camp. also, make sure that you create an enviroment that everyone feels comfortable in. alot of esl stufents feel really uncomfortable in their enviroment where they speak another language so play a lot of name games and get everybody really comfortable. good luck with the camp.

is it possible for me to go to a good college?
is it possible for me to go to a good college?
on the first semester i got all A's one B then on the second a and b's and two C's. im a freshman is it to late?? i really want to go to a good college like wisconsin and madison or colombia college But i ddon't think i'll ever make it to harbor. im a good student but i got off track by mistake, and i regret it.

just get all As through the rest of your high school career, or don't get lower than Bs and colleges will notice that you matured and are now more serious. step up your game, do well on the SAT, and you'll be fine.

Heck no, it's not to late. Don't be hard on yourself, and don't let teachers/counselors scare you. Could I possibly say that you ruined your chances at an extremely competitive school? Maybe. Though, don't lose hope now. You won't be going to ITT tech just because you got two C's. That's average.

no, you still have plenty of time. just work hard for the rest of high school, and study hard for your ACT/SAT. if the colleges see youve improved, thats a good thing.

Hello. So I’m a Swiss foreign exchange student in the U.S. As you might know, in Switzerland we speak French, German and Italian. In the past I was a foreign exchange student in nations such as Poland, Brazil, Argentine, Colombia and Romania and I never experienced any problems when communicating with the locals since most people in those nations are bilingual. However, here in the U.S. it seems like most American women only speak English, it seems like most bilingual people are either immigrants or American men. Sometimes I get bored at college and feel like talking to any of my female classmates, however, they only speak English.

Well, you see...English is the official language of America. So, naturally, that is what we AMERICAN women typically speak. If you don't like how us "simple little American gals" talk, then you can surely take your FOREIGN butt and exchange it right back over to Switzerland!! I promise that I won't shed a tear to see you go. ;o)

There's often little opportunity to practice or to use the language in America outside of some small ethnic communities (with the exception of Spanish). There is also not much of a monetary benefit. In many countries, being bilingual is a huge boost, almost to the point of being a requirement. But in the United States, extra education, such as a Master's degree, is more valuable than a second language, so it's often neglected. I think it's just random chance that the only bilingual Americans you have come across are men. American men and women are close to equally bad at foreign languages.

The women in america do usually only speak 1 language. I'm from California and speak some Spanish and some Italian tho it is limited. Most people in California speak some spanish just because of the huge influence it has on our culture. I speak some Italian because all 4 of my Grandparents were born in Italy and both my parents were fluent in Italian. Unfortunately they used to speak Italian when they didn't want me to know what they were saying. I think it is a sad thing that Americans usually do not retain the language if their families. I know my family had the attitude that we are Americans now so we wil speak their language. Kind of sad. Why was I taught all of the family recipes and how to cook things passed down from generations but not how to Communicate in the language of my family?
