Migrant Students - Please Help!?
I have a student in my 4th grade class. They both come from colombia. Their parents are farm workers and return back to their home country during slow seasons. The girls are out of school for months at a time and are falling behind in school because of it. What programs or agencies could I use in order to assist the family? Is there any type of home schooling agency the students could utilize while out of the country to keep them up to date with their school work?

Yes, if they are American citizens, hey are required BY LAW to have their children in school for 180 days/yar, unless a medical excuse is provided. Report them to the truant officer. If they are legal, but not yet citizens, you'd have to post this q in "immigration" but I would think you could discuss homeschooling or distance learning options with them. If they are illegal, call the ICE.
3 :
Send them back to Columbia. We're sick of illegal immigrants and their children leaching off American Citizens and demanding and getting preferential treatment when it comes to law enforcement!

Is the best part of a GOP House, that the DREAM Development, Relief & Ed for Alien Minors ACT will never pass?
I think the best part of the GOP retaking the House is that for at LEAST two more years none of my taxpaying dollars will be going toward providing government financial assistance for illegals to go to college in America. Maybe w/o college money they just might deport themselves! The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would pave a path to citizenship for undocumented students who arrived in the United States as minors, by giving them access to higher education and the ability to serve in the military. The bill has been introduced numerous times without success. Last week it stalled again, falling four votes short of a motion that would have allowed Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) to introduce it as part of a defense allocation bill. Yessica Martinez, 17, an undocumented student who arrived from Medellin, Colombia when she was 10, underwent an emotional rollercoaster during last week’s legislative battle. For three years, she has been a Dream Act activist at Francis Lewis High School in Queens, where she is an honor student. Though she said she was upset, she was not defeated. “We’re going to fight until this happens, and if it doesn’t happen today, it’s going to happen tomorrow; and even if it doesn’t happen then, we’re going to keep fighting until it does,†said Martinez, who wants to go to college to study journalism. http://newamericamedia.org/2010/10/students-refuse-to-give-up-on-dream-act-despite-latest-setback.php

There will be many things that can happen. Hopefully we get enough real conservatives to stop all this nonsense.

What difference does it make who gets educated if that education makes the country better? We don't want honor students in this country to continue to be educated? Damn, that's stupid. You're obviously an irrational xenophobic bigot.
4 :
Yes and as an added bonus maybe we tax payers wont have to shell out bucks to teach Gays how to have more enjoyable anal sex either
5 :
deport all illegals forcefully now ,,,,,,start building internment camps now

Maybe they should look after young americans before immigrants...

I'm tired of being in France and everyone thinking i carry drugs with me! help?
So I'm a 16 year old exchange student in France from Bogota, Colombia. I dont really look latin, i have very white skin, green eyes and light brown hair, and I'm tall and whatnot. The thing is, when i first meet someone and they notice my accent, they ask, ''where are you from'' i say ''Colombia'' and their face kindof shocks, and they say ohhhh drugs. and i jsut make a face like ''- _-" and they start talking about drugs and telling stories about what they've tried etc etc. They hear Colombia and they make direct refference!! its not even funny. Alot of guys from my school have asked me if I've ever tried any drugs or IF I HAVE ANY!! (which i certainly DO NOT) poeple make jokes about drug dealers and colombia&drugs infront of me! its soo rude i just- Anyways, yes. I know Colombia has had many 'problems'with drugs, but seriously. Some people even look at me like if i was hiding something and no one believes me when i tell them my parents are important economists of colombia (they are!) they just think I'm making that up to hide a drug-dealing background. **extra Its even stupider the shock on peoples face when they realize i have culture and manners and good looks! they cant believe im not an ''indian'' and they ask me if colombia is a jungle and if i live in a hut and stuff thats totally out of context! even my host family! ughhh this is annoying me soo much!!

To be honest, that is all you really hear of about Colombia besides news on Shakira, drugs oh and kidnappings so it's going to be the first thing they say when they hear thats where you are from because that's all that they know of about this very little known Country. It becomes very annoying to keep telling the same stories over and over again from people curious about Australia. I get a lot of people who ask me if I own a koala and ride kangaroos in the outback cause i'm Australian but all people know of about Australia if they've never been is koalas and kangaroos. As soon as people ask what ehtnicity I am because I look 100% un-Australian, they automatically assume I love an*l s*x (trying to keep it clean cause of your age!) because that's what Greeks are apparently known for! Every country has a reputation for something whether good or bad and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what people think of you or your Country because they obviously know nothing about Colombia or you personally. Just be proud of who you are and where you are from and if people don't believe your story about your parents, tell them something else.!

Do I look like the stereotypical Mexican?
I'm Mexican but some exchange students from Vietnam and Colombia came to my school and told me that I didn't look like the stereotypical Mexican. So according to their logic what other race or ethnicity could they have mistaken me for?? http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb396/Darkarchon1056/?action=view¤t=1287415585.jpg

you are Mexican but of Ethnicity or Culture you are Hispanic but Racially White.. that means your culture is Hispanic and you are White....:))) as you know Hispanic is not a race it's a Ethnicity Hispanics are mostly White all Hispanic: are 77% White and USA Hispanics are 92.7% so White :))
7 :
Oh here we go again with the stereotypes. They probably don't think you look like a typical Mexican because many non-Mexicans have a pretty warped view of how a Mexican looks. Thanks to media-projected stereotypes, Mexicans are apparently all very short and fat, with huge mustaches and sombreros. Any educated person knows that this isn't true, but the exchange students at your school are obviously very uneducated about Mexico and it's people. Realistically, most Mexicans are Mestizo (a mixture of Native American & Spanish). I think that you definitely look to be of that mix, so I consider you to look like an average Mexican.

Is overstayed visa marriage possible if they would rather return to their country first?
Is overstayed visa marriage possible if they would rather return to their country first?
Her Georgia DL expires next week. We have been dating almost 3 years. She is from Colombia and has overstayed her student visa by 4 years. I can either marry her here and she can get a "Green Card" in about 4-6 months OR I can let her return to her country to see her family and come and get her when I am ready. If I do that, how long will it take before she can return to the U.S.? What about a Fiance Visa? Does the fact that she overstayed ruin her chances of return to the US? Would I have to marry her in her country first? It is just bad timing to marry her now in the U.S.

If immigration officials discover she has overstayed her visa, she will be in a boatload of trouble and may be denied re-entry to the country.
2 :
If marrying her in Colombia fits into your plans better than anything else, nothing bad will happen to you. Obviously, her overstay isn't going to look good, but your petition will still be approved. They are adjudicated "unconditionally." F, G, J, A, and I nonimmigrants are usually admitted to the United States for a period known as "duration of status," indicated by the notation "D/S" on their Form I-94, rather than a specific expiration date. For those with a "D/S" I-94, there is no I-94 date to stay beyond. A stay beyond the date listed on Form I-20 ID or Form DS-2019 (and any applicable grace period), although considered a violation of status, is not considered to be an overstay for purposes of inadmissibility. A nonimmigrant admitted for D/S will be considered an overstay only if: 1. An immigration judge finds in the course of removal proceedings that the individual has violated status, resulting in the termination of the alien's period of authorized stay; or 2. USCIS (and now presumably DHS) determines in the course of adjudicating an application for an immigration benefit that there has been a status violation, which results in the termination of the alien's period of authorized stay. If she returns to Colombia before either of those two things happen, she'll be safe. EDIT: The ten-year bar referred to by Yak Rider will not apply to her as she was admitted D/S.
3 :
no matter if you marry her here or not she still must return to here home country an be petitioned by you an plan on 1-2 years an a good lawyer where she overstayed her visa
4 :
Listen, you need to marry her HERE. Do a concurrent filing here. She'll have her travel permit in about 90 days. Once she gets that she can visit Colombia with you and return without problems. If she goes back to Colombia she's subject to a 10 year bar on returning. You'll need an attorney and about $5,000 to get a waiver for her in order to get her back to the USA. 1. Get married. 2. You file I-130, I-864 and G-325A. 3, She files I-485, I-131, I-765 and G-325A File the forms all at the same time, in the same envelope. Cost to file is $1,365.

I think I'm addicted to caffeine and red bulls. Please read?
Hello. I'm a 18 years old boy from Colombia. I am a law student, and I play squash at a semi-professional level. I'm busy most of the time. My problem is this. I think I am addicted to caffeine and energy drinks. Every day at 2 o clock I HAVE to take a red bull. If I don't drink it I become a zombie, can't pay attention a class, my head hurts, etc. Its awful. Its not that I don't sleep well (I collapse in my bed at 10 and wake up at 6). The problem is that I can't do the simplest task without taking caffeine first. How can I overcome this addiction? Is it harmful to drink one red bull a day? Please help. PS: Forgive my bad english, I'm still learning it.

it isnt harmful to have just one a day. if you really want to break the addiction, wean yourself off slowly and drink less every day. if you decide to keep drinking red bull, it shouldn't have any neggative effects. PS: your english is very good, probably better than most of these stupid americans lol
2 :
my suggestion is to slowly ween yourself off. Try only drinking half a can or have one every other day. Keep cutting down until you're no longer dependent on it.
3 :
sounds like me in college lol. Honestly, it's probably because your body has been used to that boost for soo long that once you try to wean yourself off of it, your body cant seem to compensate for the lack of caffeine. Like any addiction, it takes time. I recommend you take fewer and fewer sips of caffeine or caffeine related drinks over time so as to not shock your system.
4 :
Hi, Caffeine is not dangerous in moderation, however your need to drink them in order to be fully active is a problem. It sounds as though you have become reliant on the stimulation of the drinks to gain your energy. There is no quick fix to correct this, you will need to wait until you have no college work to complete or attend and start reducing the usage. Some of the risks associated with energy drinks include; diabetes and heart palpitations. These are extremes and not necessarily the norm. I've posted a link to a medicine newspaper, which ran a story on the use of red bull and the health effects. I suggest you try replacing the red bull drinks with other alternatives, such as fresh fruit smoothies which contain natural sugars, protein shakes (again in moderation) to enhance protein uptake and even tea as an alternative caffeine fix. They maybe side effects such as head aches or the shakes, all felt at the beginning of the reduction process. In a worst case scenario, try consulting your doctor for further medical advice if needed. Good Luck

You have a lot of extra curricular activities. That's great. Based on your membership in NHS, I suspect your school grades are excellent. Are they? Being Mexican has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not you'll get into UT or any other school. Seems to me you're a likely candidate for acceptance.
2 :
Definitely. You have exceeded the minimal requirements along with additional extra curricular activities. Well done.
