Sure Obama is an African-American, but is he a US citizen, and is he a "natural born citizen"? Obama may be an African, not just an African-American. His mom was an American and whoever his Dad was was either African or African-American so Obama sure is an African-American. Is Obama an African? Obama reasonably claims that his Dad was Barack Obama, Sr. of Kenya. If that is so he would also be African. Just as a child of an American born abroad is an American. Why is Obama's claim of who his Dad reasonable? Because that is what official divorce documents say. That is what his mom and grandparents -- and maybe even Barack Sr. told him. Yet the mom was a sexual libertine born to parents whom themselves are rumored to have been sexual libertines. It may be that the father is someone else. Perhaps Frank Davis, the bisexual marxist author of "Black Sex Rebel." At his mom's suggestion Obama went to be mentored by Frank Davis while Obama was in high school. There's some suggestion that Davis may be Obama's father because of similar ear lobe structure, that structure seems also to suggest Barack Obama Sr. from being the father, since the ear structures are so different. (There's also rumors that Malcolm X is Obama's Dad, and their facial structure is similar but there's no evidence of any proximity at all between Obama'a mom and Malcolm X.) There's no question as to who him mom is though. So Obama is an American, and maybe African. Even if his Dad were Davis (or Malcolm X, or some unknown Cuban -- which is an even less substantial rumor) Obama would still be considered African-American. Is Obama a US citizen? At this time you do not have to produce a birth certificate to be President. Obama is the proof. He did not. A President should have to show beyond any reasonable doubt that he is a "natural born citizen" because the Constitution requires it, but NO OFFICIAL IN AUTHORITY has asked for that proof. And despite that Obama's mom was a US citizen, it may be that he is not. Why? Three ways. One is that the US statute law in effect at his birth had a requirement that to gain US citizenship the US citizen parent had to live a certain number of years in the US after being 18. Obama's mom did not -- she traveled and lived abroad. It's an arguable circumstance, but it seems to me based on the law as I have seen it makes Obama not a citizen. The second is that Obama lost his US citizenship when he was adopted by Mr. Soetoro, Obama's step-dad. Indonesian law requires that the adoptee give up any other citizenship. I've seen arguments that say the US does not recognize such loss of citizenship by a minor, as long as the minor at 18 swears a statement that he or she desires to keep their US citizenship. Anyone ever see Obama's sworn statement to that effect? The third relates to how Obama traveled to Pakistan when he was 21 or so. There's rumors that he claimed Indonesian citizenship and traveled under Indonesian passport, and even that he was enrolled at Occidental or Colombia Colleges as a foreign exchange student. Such an endorsement of Indonesian citizenship after he was an adult would mean he relinquished any claim to US birth Citizenship. All residents of the territory of Hawaii had the status of citizens, date of statehood does not matter at all. And no, Obama has never provided an official birth certificate to any official in authority to rule on the matter. Elected officials such as Obama are exempt from filling out the security clearance forms. FWIW, I've filled out such forms on a number of occasions over the past 30+ years and have gone through an inordinate number of exhaustive background checks.

Grandma says she was present when he was born..... NOT in Hawaii. His white-trash mom was "married" to a Kenyan man, and therefore HAD to be living in the USA for 14 years in order for her to pass on Citizenship to her child. People who want to claim he is not a citizen simply deny it's validity, in spite of the statement of Hawaii state officials. 3. The term "natural born" has never been defined by law. It may have originally meant born on the land which is a part of America, in which case, he qualifies. It may simply mean born to an American citizen, wherever that citizen is. The argument is that he was born in Hawaii before it became a State in 1959. However, it was a legal territory of the United States since 1900. His mother was an American Citizen and he was born in an American Protectorate (Hawaii), so he is an American, period.

I honestly can't say whether or not he's a USA born citizen, because I've never seen the proof. A lot of folks tell me he's shown his birth certificate, but when I search their sources, (i.e. NY Times, snopes.com,...), I've never found it and they've never provided a direct link that I know of. Anyway, it would be very easy for Obama to make this document public and silence his jesters if in fact he has a US birth certificate. It's been such a silly controversy, I think if it really had been shown to us, there'd be copies of it everywhere.

Where is the best place to live in New York City?

Where is the best place to live in New York City?
Ok. I am looking for a place to live in NYC. For people out there that believe it depends on preference, I completely agree. So with that in mind I will give a little personal information for anyone to help me out. First off I KNOW I want to like in Manhattan so no need to recommend anything else. Second, I am a student and when I head that way I will be attending NYU, Pace, or Colombia.Obviously because I am a student i dont have a lot of money. The highest I could probably afford is between 2,000 to 2,500. Third is my dream and goal is to become a professional actor on Broadway, So I would like something kind of close to 7th street or Broadway. I dont have a problem with roommates actually I've a very social person so I would prefer a roommate or two. Ok thats all the information I think is necessary. Also if you could help answer this question too I would greatly appreciate it. What websites do you recommend to use to find these places or what is the best way to look up these areas, people looking for roommates and such. THANK YOU!

Depends on the burrough. I live in Queens. Howard Beach. I work in Manhattan all day. I like Queens because it is still the city and I can drive or head out or Long Island. Manhattan feels cramped to me.

You want to be an actor, NYU is the place to be. Connections, connections, connections into show biz. Around Broadway in the Village is doormen apartment buildings. Quite expensive. To save money try the East Village around Tompkins Square Park. Your best bet at NYU as the one above said is Student Housing in the East Village.

$2000/month is a lot of money. I am sure you could find something in Manhattan for that amount. For another $2000, you could probably use a broker, and they will find you something. NYU, Pace and Columbia are in all different parts of the city. Have you thought of living in the dorms? That is probably your best bet.

Okay... My mother and father have recently got an Exchange Student living with us from Colombia, South America. She is in the same grade as me. She is very rich and has loads of money. She thinks she is so pretty and is better than everyone else. She talks about people that has less money than her like their good for nothing. She always wants to text and listen to her ipod, she is super lazy. She has even started to be super rude to me for no reason, i have been really nice to her. I was going to take a picture of myself the other day to just joke around and she goes "Oh no! Don't do that! Your way to ugly right now!" And in my opinion that is very rude and uncalled for! So, what can i do about this? What can i tell her? It's really starting to make me mad. So please help me with some great advice.(: Thanks(:

Marrying a Colombian girl?

Marrying a Colombian girl?
I've been dating a Colombian girl who is legally here on a student visa until next year, Fall 2010. I would like to marry her (either in the USA or Colombia) and take her back to Colombia over this Christmas. Can I take her back to Colombia to get married? or would I need to get married here first? How long does the process take for her to become legal? I know citizenship takes a while, but legal enough to travel out of the country and return whenever she likes. Thanks

My sister just got married in may shes english lived in england all her life and just got married to an american guy and mooved over so it should be the same process. The fact she has a studant visa might change it a little im not sure and i think it depends on were ure gona live once u guys are settled but You're girlfriend needs to get a fiance visa to get married in the USA, then when you get that you have 90 days to get married in America then she can apply for residency. she wont be able to leave the US untill she gets residency, you have to have lived in the USA for a number of years before you can apply for citizenship and get a US passport and stuff. My sister started the whole visa thing in November 08 and she just got her green-card the other day! it only took her three quarters of a year to get to that point. DO IT LEGALY, DONT CUT CORNERS or it could be disastrous, dont wanna scare you but do it right and it will be fine and faster than you think. And be carefull! if they think that ure just getting married so she can stay in the US theyll send her back to colombia before you can say heeeeellll noooo!!!! so youll need sufficiant funds to prove youll be okay! they make it hard for a reason!!!! if you realy love her youll take the time and effort to get this right!!! my sister is a prime example, she did it by the book got it all done in less than a year and shes living in the usa now!! good look hope this helped!

well if u get married here in the US u can sponsor her to get her to become legal here because she did come in a visa BUT it depends when she will get her legal papers because its a long process. IRS has to make sure the marriage is legit and then do all the paper work so don't count on taking her to her country yet do the legal stuff first then go traveling Hey you have the rest of your life to do so!!

Your girlfriend can travel as is, on a student visa, she just needs her international student counselor at her school to sign her I-20 before she leaves the states, and she must travel with it, the valid student visa and her passport. She also must have her I-94. You don't need to be married for her to travel as an international student. Since you're serious about this girl and want to marry her, you may be better off doing it in the states (you will need your marriage certificate when you apply for her papers, and if it's from Columbia, you'll need to go through an extra loop of paperwork IN COLUMBIA to make sure the Colombian marriage certificate is valid internationally, hence in the US. Same applies for US issued marriage certificates to be accepted worldwide). Once you guys get married, you and her together can apply for AOS - adjustment of status - for her to get her permanent residence. You better do that as soon as you get married too - it'll takes about 6-9 months for her to get her green card. Hopefully, this way, but the time her student visa expires and she's done with school, the green card would have gone through. If you do the entire adjustment of status package together, you'll save time and money and you'll be able to take care of everything all at ones. The package includes - I-130 (application for immigrant visa for relative - spouse in your case), I-864 (affidavit of support - you fill out and submit for her to be able to immigrate), I-485 (application to adjust status, as in application for green card/permanent residence - she fills this out), I-765 (application for employment authorization based on the AOS application - she files this too), I-131 (application for travel document - Advance parole - if she wishes to travel while her AOS is pending. Note - she can travel on her F-1 status while it's active). There is also form G-325, biographical info, that you both need to file, as well as, for you, tax returns for three years back (although USCIS only requires one, it's a good idea to show all three to prove you are able to sponsor her). I have a student in my 4th grade class. They both come from colombia. Their parents are farm workers and return back to their home country during slow seasons. The girls are out of school for months at a time and are falling behind in school because of it. What programs or agencies could I use in order to assist the family? Is there any type of home schooling agency the students could utilize while out of the country to keep them up to date with their school work?

Yes, if they are American citizens, hey are required BY LAW to have their children in school for 180 days/yar, unless a medical excuse is provided. Report them to the truant officer. If they are legal, but not yet citizens, you'd have to post this q in "immigration" but I would think you could discuss homeschooling or distance learning options with them. If they are illegal, call the ICE.

I think the best part of the GOP retaking the House is that for at LEAST two more years none of my taxpaying dollars will be going toward providing government financial assistance for illegals to go to college in America. Maybe w/o college money they just might deport themselves! The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would pave a path to citizenship for undocumented students who arrived in the United States as minors, by giving them access to higher education and the ability to serve in the military. The bill has been introduced numerous times without success. Last week it stalled again, falling four votes short of a motion that would have allowed Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) to introduce it as part of a defense allocation bill. So I'm a 16 year old exchange student in France from Bogota, Colombia. I dont really look latin, i have very white skin, green eyes and light brown hair, and I'm tall and whatnot. The thing is, when i first meet someone and they notice my accent, they ask, ''where are you from'' i say ''Colombia'' and their face kindof shocks, and they say ohhhh drugs. and i jsut make a face like ''- _-" and they start talking about drugs and telling stories about what they've tried etc etc. They hear Colombia and they make direct refference!! its not even funny. Alot of guys from my school have asked me if I've ever tried any drugs or IF I HAVE ANY!! (which i certainly DO NOT) poeple make jokes about drug dealers and colombia&drugs infront of me! its soo rude i just- Anyways, yes. I know Colombia has had many 'problems'with drugs, but seriously. Some people even look at me like if i was hiding something and no one believes me when i tell them my parents are important economists of colombia (they are!) they just think I'm making that up to hide a drug-dealing background. **extra Its even stupider the shock on peoples face when they realize i have culture and manners and good looks! they cant believe im not an ''indian'' and they ask me if colombia is a jungle and if i live in a hut and stuff thats totally out of context! even my host family! ughhh this is annoying me soo much!!

To be honest, that is all you really hear of about Colombia besides news on Shakira, drugs oh and kidnappings so it's going to be the first thing they say when they hear thats where you are from because that's all that they know of about this very little known Country. It becomes very annoying to keep telling the same stories over and over again from people curious about Australia. I get a lot of people who ask me if I own a koala and ride kangaroos in the outback cause i'm Australian but all people know of about Australia if they've never been is koalas and kangaroos. As soon as people ask what ehtnicity I am because I look 100% un-Australian, they automatically assume I love an*l s*x (trying to keep it clean cause of your age!) because that's what Greeks are apparently known for! Every country has a reputation for something whether good or bad and at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what people think of you or your Country because they obviously know nothing about Colombia or you personally. Just be proud of who you are and where you are from and if people don't believe your story about your parents, tell them something else.!
