i am sponsoring someone to come from colombia to the u.s. I was told i have to write a letter of support in which it shows i am financially stable. i have a home, work, and some time deposits. i am trying to get a copy of an example so i know what to include and what not to. also do people from colombia need a sponsor to get a student visa, anyone know? anyone know of any other steps i need to take? thank you all. i really appriciate your help. oh yeah i am a u.s. citizen and 22 (in case anyone needs this info) the person i am sponsoring is just a friend. i am sorry i meant a tourist visa. i forgot to mwntion she is a student in a univ of colombia

I'm not from Colombia but normally what the US consulate wants to see before they issue a tourist visa B1/B2 is that the person has ties to their home country and is financially capable of coming to the states to visit. If you can get those paper to him it will help in the process but he will need to show ties to Colombia, like a job, a rent contract, a house, family, etc. For studding it's a whole different thing, those are F visas and they need to be sponsored by the college he will be attending, normally you have to apply for the college from your home country and then when the have accepted you they will send you the necessary paperwork to file for an F visa. If you need a letter to show that you are financially stable, you do not write it yourself, you have to let the bank knows that and they should be able to give it to you because they should be familiar with those types of letters. And yes they do need a sponsor if that is the option they are taking, but you need to have some $$$$ in the bank. I know a good lawyer who can help you. So email if you need more info

In the uscis site you will find all the information. Go to www.uscis.gov Generaly the letther is only and statment of your financial status, where you have to put your income , employer, starting date , among any data useful to demostrate you are in an stable position. Give then copy of your loan or house title, car title, earning statetments, bank account , saving and so on.
