Is the acceptance into medical school higher for physics majors than that of biology majors?
So i am considering a career in medicine, and i am still in high school. i was thinking in majoring in biology b/c thats my strong science subject, but then i found out acceptance rates for that subject is low b/c it is a popular subject for pre-med students. i want to go to univeristy of colombia for medical school, but i know it is hard to get in, and i am very skeptical about what i should major in before.

What you major in doesn't exactly matter. If you really enjoy biology, then major in it. Major in what you like most, so you do really well. Just try to do amazing in the classes that are required for med. school.

I think it really doesn't matter. As long as you do WELL in your core curriculum/prerequisites, you will have a shot. This would include year of physics, biology, 2 years chemistry including year or organic, etc. This is of course on every med. school's website. For Columbia, however, your choice of undergrad will be a huge factor in your acceptance; those who go to Ivy schools will be more favored than those who are from small state schools. And, of note, Columbia is not the be-all, end-all in regards to medical school. It is in an absolutely atrocious part of NYC. Best of luck.

If you like biology then by all means, major in it. Biology is still the most common Major in medical school applicants. Just because it is common doesn't mean it's thought any less of. Don't base your future on what you hear. Always find sources for accurate information. For medical school, it's the Association of American Medical Colleges. http://www.aamc.org/ On the left side menu you'll find their link to surveys and data. On the scroll down menu, go to the Facts link and you can see what the statistics were for last year's admissions (as well as other years). Explore the site--it'll answer most of your questions and you can trust the information provided.
