ok.... i've got plenty of time to decide...but just a general idea of what to expect from both of these countries/regions i study history & culture & spanish and will be going as part of my degree i've heard plenty of horror stories about central & south America... but being a young lady quite into her reggaeton & caribbean vibes i feel i would be missing out if i went to spain. here are MY own pros & cons.... please add to if you know any it will help me get a realistic picture and make a better descision! Spain pros: closer to home & within the EU moorish influence (history) varied climate safe cheaper, inc travel cons: no reggaeton :-( is good for history...but not as much as Latin Am LA pros: reggaeton! :-) history history history spanish spanish spanish beaches beaches beaches hot hot hot CONS: SAFE????? far from home cost of travel to and from UK healthcare HMMMM descisions descisions......... I'm thinking maybe Cartagena in Colombia as its a. on the coast b. student area c. good schools (Nueva Lengua) d. relatively safe compared to the Colombian interior. what is a realistic picture of safety in Colombia?? Im not gonna be walking around with a camera dangling from my neck, or dripping in jewelry. If i do say so myself, i could (maybe) pass as a Colombian. or Southern Spain.... but havent delved into that yet. What do you think kids?????? All info welcome :-) SORRY forgot to add DONT want to be overwhelmed by tourists like myself. Some are ok but if its anything like Oxford Circus on a Friday at 6pm, don't bother SORRY AGAIN! lol part of my studies includes the Afro-influence to these regions...... does Cartagena have a prominent Afro influence?? any other LA countries???

it's really your decision i'll just add to your pros and cons about latin america. LATIN AMERICA has adventure written all over it. Any where you go in Latin America has it's own vibe but everyone of them are nice. You can learn about their history and learn in more depth about Spain in America and how they screwed everything up. You can enjoy perfect weather depending on where you go (Guatemala has the best weather ever). Also..the beaches? CONS CONS CONS: you gotta realize latin america is run by drug trafficking. mara salvatrucha, the 18th street, north hollywood...these gangs run these countries. and they're very messed up they like to sever people and they're not scared to do anything. and trust me they can tell if you're a tourist or not..and last time i checked tourists have money. also, don't expect everything to be as modern as spain.

Latin america of course but I prefer both europe and america ---- it will be a nice idea cartagena yes have afro culture but if you go to the capital Bogota Dc experience the spanish and european herence and modernity go to other cities
